“Fire Resistance in Plastics" addresses circular economy
As in the last year, events such as fairs or meetings in Europe continue to take place mostly only online. This is of course also true for the topic of flame retardants.
A new prominent example is the conference Fire Resistance in Plastics, AMI, which took place in recent years in Cologne and enjoyed a lively appeal. Although it was to take place last year, beginning of December in Düsseldorf, but unfortunately due to the ongoing situation it had to be moved to the virtual space and was held on 23-25th February this year.
Several companies and organizations from the sector such as Clariant, ICL, pinfa, Thor and others had virtual booth this year, where you could find out about the latest products and solutions and look for direct conversation with experts. Of course, in a large number of lectures the participants could also gain more insight in these topics.
An important focus was on the new challenges of the circular economy and the increasingly important topic of recycling. Here Marc Leifer informed in ICL’s presentation about the status of brominated flame retardants and current recycling technologies and the challenges to recycle plastics containing flame retardants. Furthermore Adrian Beard, pinfa, explained in his presentation the challenges of the circular economy for flame retardant plastics.
An additional important topic block dealt with transportation. Here Sebastian Hoerold, Clariant, explained current flame retardant solutions for polyamides with a focus on e-mobility. Additionally, Buket Turan, eurotec, presented tailored material solutions to comply with stringent fire safety standards like EN 45545 (railway) or FAR 25.853 (aviation).
Even if the event could only take place online, it was very successful with 140 attendees from 24 different countries and 17 expert speakers.
